Whether you’re looking for something in the heart of the city in Downtown Wilsonville, in the up and coming area of Stafford, something close to the convenience of I-5, or something on the outskirts of the city with a little quieter pace, you can find the home you desire in Wilsonville. This city is a great place to relocate your family.

Wilsonville is nestled between Portland, Oregon’s largest city and Salem, the state’s capital. Once a small farming community, Wilsonville is now a fast growing city of 19,000+.

On the business side, Wilsonville is home to some of Oregon’s largest and most influential corporate citizens, including Xerox, Mentor Graphics, Precision Interconnect, Hollywood Entertainment, Sysco Food Services of Portland, Costco, GI Joes Inc., Rite Aid, Vision Plastics, Fry’s Electronics, Nike, Flir and many others. For residents, Wilsonville provides many city services including police, mass transit, senior services, parks & recreation, a newly expanding library, new civic center and new city hall. With the city’s commitment to smart community planning and development, Wilsonville will continue to maintain its family friendly, small town feel as it grows and continues to be recognized as a beautiful place to both live and work.

The West Linn-Wilsonville School District covers 42 square miles in the south metropolitan area of Portland, Oregon. The district includes two towns, West Linn and Wilsonville, and a rural area of Clackamas County. The district is a K-12 public school system with approximately 8,000 students.
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District prides itself on substantial staff development opportunities for its teaching staff. It is the district’s belief that a well-educated staff serves its students well. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores are among the highest in Oregon, and Oregon consistently ranks first or second in SAT scores nationwide for states in which fifty percent or more of the graduating seniors take the test. Approximately 90 percent of all West Linn-Wilsonville graduates go on to two- and four-year colleges.

What better way to celebrate the holiday season than with ZooLights at the Oregon Zoo. The Zoo transforms into a winter wonderland with moving sculptures, forests of lighted trees and animal silhouettes. You can also hop on the Zoo’s lighted steamer train, which provides a unique view of the ZooLights. Continuing now through Sunday, January 1st- Don’t miss this great event this holiday season. Visit the Oregon Zoo for a complete list of hours and ticket information.
If you haven’t been to Peacock Lane in East Portland, it’s worth making the trip. In the Laurelhurst Neighborhood, east of 39th Avenue you’ll find what Portlanders know as Peacock Lane. Not just any ordinary neighborhood block- four blocks are lit up around Christmas with bright light displays, nativity scenes, and many decorations. This became a tradition in the early years of the community, and every year seems to get better and better. The street started in the 1920s, with large Tudor style homes and ornate gas street lamps. It’s worth going just to see the unique homes, and with several Christmas decorations and lights added, you won’t want to miss this! Every night through December 31st you are welcome to stroll the streets of Peacock Lane.

A big top circus tent has popped up in the Pearl district at NW 12th and Quimby. This once vacant land space is home to a horse powered show called, The Cavalia. The city has allowed equestrian and performing arts to come together for this neighborhood show for the holidays. The show has been in the works for over a year, and runs now through December 4th.

The Cavalia tent is the largest touring tent in the world, which seats 2,000 spectators. Portland is well known for its creative use of vacant land, from community gardens, parks, and now family entertainment under a big white tent.

The Pearl District was a former warehouse and industrial area near downtown Portland. The area eventually transformed into what now is one of the hottest urban neighborhoods in America now. As you walk the streets, you’ll find old warehouses remodeled into luxurious loft buildings. The Pearl District neighborhood is packed with art galleries, upscale business and world-class dining.

See for yourself what the show is about. For tickets and more information visit Cavalia.

Portland’s earned another big recognition from Forbes, naming our city as one of the Most Beautiful Downtowns in America. The list focused on mid-sized cities with accessible downtown areas that are perfect for tourists and residents alike, and took into account factors like attractiveness, accessibility, diversity of offerings, shops, restaurants, proximity of parks and cultural options. If you ask us, Portland is definitely the most beautiful city in the country. If you have yet to visit, you’ll find out why.

“Although Portland is well known as a city that is friendly to bicyclists, it also has a walkable and attractive downtown that offers a wide variety of cultural options and commercial options. There’s a vibrant and active arts scene, great food on both the high and low ends, the country’s best selection of locally sourced craft beers, an attractive and popular riverside park, and Powell’s, the largest and one of the best independent bookstores in the country. And while you can, with some effort walk around much of Portland’s relatively small downtowns, its best to make like a local and rent a bike – you’ll get around more effectively, see more of the area, and get a little exercise – all good things in the greenest of “America’s 50 Greenest Cities.”.

When it comes down to it, Downtown Portland is just one of many amazing areas in this beautiful city, where the suburbs and inner city are equally green, inviting, family-friendly, and gorgeous year-round. Walk-ability has a large impact on local real estate, as Portland residents really value the ability to walk to supermarkets, schools, restaurants, bars, and more.

If you’re familiar with real estate listings in Portland and other areas where walk-ability ranks high among home buyers wishes, you’ll no doubt have seen the “Walk Score” that ranks homes according to the number of amenities within walking distance. Created by Seattle software company Front Seat in 2007, the Walk Score site includes an interactive map, where users can input an address and get a score.

You’ll always discover something new in Portland – see for yourself

Kick off your boots and get your lederhosen on for this weekend’s Oktoberfest at Mt. Angel! You don’t want to miss Oregon’s oldest and best-loved celebration which began in 1966 as a traditional harvest festival.

Enjoy traditional food and drinks, live music with over 30 musical groups, arts and crafts, Bavarian dancers, and much more! The festival continues through this weekend until September 18th; 11am-midnight. Mt. Angel is about 40 miles south of Portland, and 17 miles north of Salem. For a map visit Find Oktoberfest. Most events are free, and a cover charge for entry into the Beirgartens.

Some highlights you won’t want to miss are the Mt. Angel school children that perform a German weaver’s dance and other Bavarian folk dances each day at noon. Or enjoy some food at the Alpine Food Booths with delicious Bavarian treats and other ethnic foods. Little alpine chalets line the village streets and beckon the festival visitors. On Friday and Saturday nights, the wonderful sounds of music, singing, and yodeling take place at the Bandstand. If you’re young at heart, you can try the street dancing with polka contests.

Mt. Angel is a quaint little town that will take you back to your German heritage. Founded in the late 1800s by German settlers, this town is an Old World flavor which is heightened by the many Bavarian style storefronts and the beautiful Benedictine Abbey.

Visit Mt. Angel and Oregon’s largest folk festival this weekend, you’ll be sure to have a great time!

With school right around the corner, children will soon be starting Elementary School, High School, or whatever the case may be – your child’s education is important. While 14% of children attend private school, the vast majority attend Public Schools.

To make sure you’re aware of the different factors that differentiate one public school from another, check out Portland Monthly’s Best Schools Statistics. They’ve removed the facts from schools around Oregon, including student per teacher ratios, diversity statistics, education level of instructors, and test scores.

While there’s no list of “the best public schools in Portland”–families have different criteria they’re looking for, so there’s really no definitive way to qualify schools. The statistics can help your family decide what’s most important to you. At Knipe Realty NW, we know that education is a major factor for many parents when making the decision to move or buy a home. That’s why we offer all the tools you need to make an educated decision on where to live with schools in mind. With all the School Tools, you can search a variety of education related topics and most importantly they allow you to select the school you’re interested in and give you the facts that are pertinent to your child’s education. It’s the easiest way to compare schools in different neighborhoods or even different towns if you’re trying to figure out the best place to relocate your growing family.

Even if your kids are growing up and moving on, check out the search tool to find a College and so much more. With so many options, you’re sure to find the school, and home that’s right for you.
